A Blessing for the New Year

Fort Loudon Lake Sunrise

Somewhere around the first of November I finally began reading John O’Donohue’s book To Bless the Space Between Us. The lyrical power of blessing has infused my soul with a calm strength. Although my recent morning spiritual practice has not included books as meditation, this one called me to daily readings. Sometimes a page, sometimes a chapter, but often just one sentence would help guide my day.

And then ~ I opened today to page 215 in my edition. The synchronicity of the section “Blessing Our World Now” is no more coincidence than the sun rising on this New Year’s Day 2025 all over the world.

O’Donohue writes:  “We live in times when the call to full and critically aware citizenship could not be more urgent. We need to discover the careless courage, yet devastating simplicity of the little boy who, in the middle of the numbed multitude…blurts out: ‘But the emperor has no clothes.’ When spoken the word of truth can bring down citadels of falsity…Yet the world is not decided by action alone…Your outlook actually and concretely affects what goes on…you can become a powerful agent of transformation in a broken, darkened world. There is a huge force field that opens when intention focuses and directs itself towards transformation.”

We, my friends of deep consciousness, are the hope of the world we live in today. May your light cast long shadows as you illuminate the darkness.

Namaste. And Blessings to you.
